Distribution Panel
A distribution panel, also called a distribution board or panelboard, is an enclosure that divides an incoming power feed into subsidiary circuits, each protected by a circuit breaker, fuse or residual-current device. It typically contains a main incoming device, busbars, outgoing protective devices, neutral and earth bars, and often metering and surge protection. In a typical low-voltage hierarchy, main distribution boards (MDB) feed sub-main distribution boards (SMDB), which in turn feed final distribution boards serving lighting, socket-outlet and small-power circuits. Low-voltage assemblies are designed and verified to the IEC 61439 series. Selection parameters include rated voltage and current, short-circuit withstand rating, number of outgoing ways, form of internal separation, IP and IK ratings, wall- or floor-mounting, cable entry arrangement, and coordination and selectivity of protective devices.
Examples
- Main distribution board (MDB) for a warehouse
- Final distribution board for lighting and socket circuits
