Hydraulic Filter Element

A hydraulic filter element is the replaceable filtering medium installed in a filter housing to remove solid particles from hydraulic fluid and protect pumps, valves and actuators from wear. Elements are made from glass fibre, cellulose, synthetic media or wire mesh, and are installed in suction, pressure, return or off-line circuits. Filtration performance is expressed by the beta ratio (βx) determined by multi-pass testing to ISO 16889, and fluid cleanliness is specified as an ISO 4406 code. Selection parameters include rated flow, operating and collapse pressure, micron rating, dirt-holding capacity, fluid compatibility, bypass valve setting and differential-pressure indicator. Elements must match the housing dimensions and seal design. Replacement is typically triggered by the differential-pressure indicator or by oil analysis results.

Examples

  • Return-line element on a hydraulic power unit
  • High-pressure element protecting servo valves
  • Suction strainer at a hydraulic pump inlet
