AI agents could be tricked into accessing sensitive UAE government data, cyber chief warns

The UAE Cyber Security Council has issued a warning regarding the vulnerability of autonomous AI agents to malicious instructions. As over 50 government entities integrate AI-native systems, there is a risk that these systems could be manipulated to access financial records or sensitive data. For industrial procurement professionals, this highlights a critical need to prioritize cybersecurity features in any AI-driven industrial automation or Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) equipment.

When sourcing industrial control systems (ICS) or smart machinery, buyers must ensure that the hardware and software meet the UAE’s rigorous new AI security protections. Procurement specifications should now include requirements for adversarial testing and robust encryption for data-at-rest and data-in-transit. This warning serves as a reminder that as industrial equipment becomes more autonomous, the security of the digital layer is just as vital as the mechanical reliability of the hardware.
